Miscellaneous Materials Collection 010 MM010

Sorry again to be sending so soon, but I just gathered so much through November and December that it seemed smarter to break this into two closely timed chunks instead … This should also get me through my old 2019 piles — all future MMXXXs will be 2020 procured content! I know I've missed many of you having school or work breaks, so you'll no longer have unlimited time for reading, but here we go!

I am running a class this spring, Sustainable Graphic Design, and am always looking for the newest (and old but still prescient), best readings to offer students on that front — so if you have any ideas, please share. I sort of have a reading list documented on are.na. But in looking for more readings for that, I of course collected all sorts of other things, some of which have found their way into MM010. Classes start this week (my SGD class starts Friday!) and I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure the futures MM's will contain more documents found by myself and my students on the "Climate Designer" sort of focus.

MM010 includes:
- Old versions of my SGD reading PDFs
- Some ideas on the Bauhaus
- Trying to explain what graphic design is
- Some premade presentation PDFs from Okala
- Using the constraint of scarcity in a project to teach environmental limits in a design studio...
- Some excerpts from a conference, Enough: The Architecture of Degrowth
- Thinking about ethics and design
- And so much more...

Well, while there is no shortage of content to collect, I'll be taking a brief pause probably until early March. There's so much to do! my wife and I have a new kiddo! I'm doing a workshop and lecture in Lincoln Nebraska mid march! I have multiple student exhibitions to start figuring out how help with! I haven't managed to do this quite every month since I started; more like every 6 or 8 weeks — but I've been close! Hopefully 2020 will see a more even distribution of collecting post this term's start.

Enjoy.
