[MM]: Miscellaneous Materials Collection 009

Welcome to the 009th collection of semi-random documents known as “Miscellaneous Materials”

Miscellaneous Materials Collection 009

I was hoping to get this out at the start of November, then the end of November, then the beginning of December ... but alas, that was not the case. So, it is coming to you this first week of the new year instead. My wife and I have a new born baby girl, now a month old, and preparing for that, the various holidays, and the end of the school term all conspired to delay this package.

For your reading and researching pleasure this time around are:
  • A brief timeline/history of the city of Baltimore;
  • A primer on hybrid print/epub publishing;
  • The patent application for Buckminster Fuller's dymaxion map
  • Readings about speculating the future!
  • A lovely ancient essay on vegetarianism;
  • A safety sheet for dealing with potassium hydroxide (I saw someone making carbon sequestering 3D printed objects made from sodium hydroxide and was like, wait, isn't that kind of dangerous? and so ended up looking at this for a while...)
  • a document outlining how to spot characteristics of white supremacy in your organization or life;
  • And so much more...
I can't help myself from continuing to dive deeper in carbon sequestering, "sustainable design," and all the other restorative ideas, techniques, etc. (there's a doc from a new carbon marketplace startup; a doc on urban blight and urban tree canopies). This includes dealing with bias and racial inequity, and this collection has  readings on that front as well.

Hopefully you find something of intellectual or any other use in this collection.

As a tangential note, I was working on a somewhat goofy endeavor for 2019 -- writing at least a sentence a day for the whole year. The fruits of this labor can be found on github. https://github.com/bjornmeansbear/sentence-a-day/blob/master/README.md
Now, there is a lot there, some of it useless. some of it cathartic, but not really related to anything. some of it duplicate content. There are some gems in there, definitely. Anyway, I thought, if anyone was interested, they could take a look. Find a sentence or a thread or a thought that interests you. Maybe something you've been thinking about too? maybe something you want to know more about? Email or call me about it. Let's write something, or have a discussion. Let's then document that. And publish or disseminate it in some way. I need there to be some action! I want to help inspire new knowledge! so let's see what use we can find for my lines and lines of thoughts, and our energies.

Enjoy. My email is open for response and conversation.

Until the next collection.
Cheers.
