Virgin Atlantic's new AI Concierge answers by voice

Three new consumer AI agent launches today — an airline, a fashion retailer, and a grocery chain — plus a mixed-to-negative reception finding for a home-energy AI assistant and a five-platform reception sweep. Here's what happened.

New launches

Virgin Atlantic's AI Concierge lets flyers plan trips by chat, tap, or talk

Virgin Atlantic — major UK long-haul carrier, part of the Virgin Group.

A multimodal AI Concierge across Virgin Atlantic's airline and Holidays websites, built with OpenAI (including real-time voice models) and deployment partner Tomoro. Guests can type, tap, or talk to get personalized flight/holiday recommendations, Flying Club loyalty enquiries, and general customer service, with the system learning traveller preferences across the conversation. Rolled out fully across web in December 2025; mobile app integration planned for 2026, with rollout to Virgin America/Virgin Australia also planned.

How to try it: Visit virginatlantic.com or the Virgin Atlantic Holidays site and use the "Chat to us" button (bottom right) to type, tap, or talk to Concierge.

Kate Spade is the first retailer live on Amazon's new agentic shopping platform

Kate Spade — premium fashion/accessories brand under Tapestry, the Fortune 500 parent of Coach and Kate Spade.

A conversational AI Gift Concierge on katespade.com that engages shoppers about occasion, recipient, and style before generating personalized gift recommendations. Built on Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5 model via Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, and shaped by shopper-behavior insights from Amazon's own Alexa for Shopping. Kate Spade is the first production customer of AWS's new Agentic Shopping Assistant platform, which AWS is now offering to other retailers. Launched April 13, 2026 after roughly 2.5 months of testing.

How to try it: Visit katespade.com and use the AI Gift Concierge chat tool to describe the occasion and recipient.

Albertsons rolls out an agentic AI shopping assistant across all its grocery banners

Albertsons Companies — one of the largest US grocery retailers, parent of Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, and other banners.

An OpenAI-powered, multi-agent shopping assistant (branded per banner: Albertsons AI, Safeway AI, Vons AI, Jewel-Osco AI, etc.) that plans meals, restocks essentials, converts recipes and shopping lists into carts, imports recipes from photos, and curates themed product ideas. Albertsons says it can cut grocery shopping time from about 45 minutes to as little as 4. Launched across all banner websites' online Meals Hub in early December 2025; rollout to banner apps planned for early 2026.

How to try it: Visit albertsons.com/assistant (or the Meals Hub on safeway.com, vons.com, or jewelosco.com).

New reception findings

Enphase Energy's home-energy AI assistant gets mixed-to-negative user reviews

Launched about 2 weeks ago (August 2026): general-availability rollout of the AI Assistant in the Enphase App drew independent Trustpilot reviews that are mixed to negative on the AI itself, not just the surrounding support experience — one reviewer wrote the advertised AI mode "barely works" and has been "in beta for over a year with no noticeable improvements," and another specifically flagged customer service as "dominated by AI and DIY." Company materials describe granular access controls and audit logging built into the assistant, but no independent hands-on review of its actual answer quality was found.

Platform Watch

  • Sinch forecasts AI-driven messaging traffic growing three-to-five-fold in 2026 and cites up to 30% higher order value from AI-handled upsells — but its own commissioned survey found 74% of enterprises have had to roll back a live AI customer-communications agent at some point, even as 98% keep increasing AI investment. • Wix's own native AI chatbot is poorly reviewed by independent sources — bugs, capped rule-based training, and accuracy disclaimers from Wix itself — pushing most site owners toward third-party chatbot apps in the Wix App Market instead. Source: Ultimo Bots.
  • Google AI Mode passed 1 billion monthly active users by May 2026, a 10x jump in six months, with follow-up queries up over 40%/month in the US — genuine engagement, not just novelty traffic. Source: WrittenlyHub.
  • ChatGPT's commerce push shows a split picture: traffic and retailer sign-ups are booming (900M weekly users, 1M+ Shopify merchants live), but OpenAI quietly shelved in-chat Instant Checkout after users browsed heavily without buying — Etsy confirmed no meaningful sales volume — and independent survey data still ranks in-chat purchase completion as the least-adopted AI-search use case. • Claude's consumer app hit 12.48M monthly active users by February 2026 (+49% month-over-month) and its paying-consumer base and revenue grew roughly 75% since January 2026 — real share gains in a paid-AI market ChatGPT has historically dominated. Source: TechCrunch.
