Birdsong Concerts: May 1st Fiddle and Banjo!
Hi all,
We’ve got a really special night coming up at Birdsong on Friday, May 1st, featuring Dayna Pirso and Finley Rose.
These two will be sharing the evening in a fluid, collaborative format—playing both as a duo and in their own solo sets. It’s a chance to hear each of their distinct voices, as well as what opens up when they come together.
Dayna Pirso is a banjo player and singer whose work is rooted in a long history of street performance—busking in Toronto subways and across the country—and carries that immediacy and inventiveness. Their sets can weave together song, puppetry, clown, and poetry, drawing from Eastern European folk traditions, early jazz ballads, and American roots music. There’s a sense of story and character throughout, shaped by years of performing in public, unpredictable spaces.
Finley Rose is a fiddler, singer, and banjo player based in Victoria. Their music moves between darkness and light, with soaring vocals, intricate fiddle lines, and intimate, fingerpicked banjo. Alongside original songs, Finley brings a wide range of traditional material—from Appalachian and Québécois tunes to Irish melodies—played with clarity and feeling. They also perform with the band Clanna Morna.
Together, this pairing promises something dynamic and alive—shifting between solo and shared moments over the course of the evening.
