Man Shot and Killed at Hunters Point Waterfront; Homicide Investigation Underway
A 44-year-old man died Thursday evening after being shot on Thomas Avenue near the Yosemite Slough — the fourth homicide in Bayview so far this year.
A man was shot and killed on Thursday evening in Hunters Point in what may become San Francisco's 19th homicide of the year. Officers responded to reports of gunfire on Thomas Avenue — a largely industrial street lined by warehouses at the edge of the Yosemite Slough near the South Basin waterfront — at 5:11 p.m. The victim, described in the San Francisco Police Department's incident log as Hispanic and 44 years old, was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

D10 Race: Ellington Alone on Lurie Charter Reforms as Forum Exposes Fault Lines
At a September 30 candidate forum at the Southeast Community Center, frontrunner Theo Ellington was the only one of six participants to support Mayor Lurie's proposed charter amendments — a position that drew audible surprise from the crowd.
The race to succeed termed-out District 10 Supervisor Shamann Walton entered its final stretch this week with a forum that sharpened contrasts among the leading candidates. At a youth-led forum held Wednesday, September 30, at the Southeast Community Center — co-hosted by Chinese for Affirmative Action and 3rd Street Youth Center & Clinic — frontrunner Theo Ellington found himself alone in supporting Mayor Daniel Lurie's proposed city charter amendments, which appear on the November ballot as Propositions D, E, and F.

Yvonne's Southern Sweets Marks 20 Years on Third Street With a Saturday Celebration
The beloved Bayview bakery — which only recently reopened after an eight-month closure due to illness — throws a free anniversary party on October 4.
Yvonne's Southern Sweets, the Third Street bakery that has been a fixture of the Bayview–Hunters Point community since owner Yvonne Hines opened its storefront in 2006, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this Saturday, October 4. The free celebration runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the bakery at 5128 Third St. The anniversary comes after a particularly difficult stretch for the shop. Hines announced in early February that she would close temporarily while she recovered from an illness, leaving the storefront shuttered for eight months.
