AYTFA Issue #2

Ask your trans friend anything,

How did you know top surgery was right for you?

Questioning top surgery

Dear QTS

The easiest answer is that I didn't want them. From the start of my transition, I had 2 goals, get on HRT (aka Hormone Replacement Therapy) and get something off my chest. I got my 1st letter to start hormones and then would later on, find someone to provide my 1 letter from a mental health specialist along with having my PCP (Primary Care Physician) letter recommending it as treatment. As that was the process a trans masc had to go through in order to medically transition.

Nowadays, healthcare requirements differ depending on what country you live in and even then that also varies by region and what you can afford. I was fortunate to have started earlier in life and before trans healthcare in the United States became worse as I got my top surgery (double mastectomy) done in April 2018.

For those that are questioning surgery or unable to obtain it immediately, there are options out there to try out from stylizing your clothing a certain way to using a binder to flatten your chest or torso to using trans_tape to contour your chest.

I'd also recommend pairing these options with joining either local in person or online trans masc group(s) to find more support in your journey. I, personally, found having a local in person and online group helpful as I was able to hear my fellow trans masc stories and experiences with local physicians and surgeons. It is also nice knowing, you aren't alone.

If you'd like to know more about my own top surgery journey. I'll be releasing 'Top Surgery: Post Op of 9 Years' in April 2027 on my Patreon.

In the meantime, next month's issue will be Recommended Products for…

Sincerely,

Jackson
