Nature and Worship
A northern saw-whet owl ready to be tagged.
There’s a Ruskin exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art that I’d love to see but, alas, probably can’t. It’s inspiring some good responses, though, including this one from Verlyn Klinkenborg. I think Ruskin is a figure of overwhelming importance, and that Christians in particular should pay the closest attention to him: I tried to explain why in this essay. Also, the “Ruskin” tag at my blog is full of goodies.
In my last issue I talked about design and typography in Bibles, and here’s some related news. Samuel Bray and Drew Nathaniel Keane have put together an absolutely gorgeous version of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer adapted for use outside of the United Kingdom — so no prayers for Queen Elizabeth and that sort of thing — and with a few small amendments, especially to Miles Coverdale’s Psalms. (Don’t worry, Coverdale fans, the changes are small and well-warranted.) It also contains various other useful elements, including the great Homily on Justification and a wide range of powerful and beautiful prayers. It’ll be available from InterVarsity Press next year, and I’ll be pre-ordering as soon as I can.
