In Which This Writer Is Rather Frantic
I wrote last time about the cool things that angels do in Arcabas’s paintings, but here’s another: they spring apostles from jail.
Some of you are quite interested in Arcabas, so you might be interested to see the images by him I have on my blog.
This issue is a brief one, and then I will take a break from the newsletter for two or three weeks. The end of the term is at my throat, as Chesterton almost said, and the end of this term is gonna be unlike any other.
Here are a few things I’ve written recently:
- I wrote my third blog post about this spectacular season of Better Call Saul
- I wrote about how our preferred narratives control our thinking, and explained why your role model in these tough times should be Ross Macdonald’s private investigator Lew Archer
- I expanded on the themes of that post in one called Thinking During Covidtide
From Macdonald’s The Goodbye Look:
“You have a secret passion for justice. Why don’t you admit it?”
“I have a secret passion for mercy,” I said. “But justice is what keeps happening to people.”
