I missed sharing a newsletter last month which reminded me that I do still want to report on what I’m up to even if I’m not sure how regular that might be at this point. That said, here’s some reportage from last month (there’s a TLDR at the end, if that’s helpful).
ANALOG/VIRTUAL
This part of the update will be more for those who are interested in the internal side of how I’m sharing my work. During March I went pretty minimal on the virtual part of my practice. As someone who mostly makes and documents their work digitally, this shift was not intentional. But I decided to follow intuition into what became much more clarity around the distinction between the private and public aspects of my art practice.
I started documenting my work through audio-visual.journal as a website/newsletter combo about a year ago (happy 1 year celebration<3) and as someone who makes video work, does internet research, and consumes lots of art online/via streaming, it’s been an incredibly virtual workflow. It’s also been pretty insular. I have other parts of my practice that are more physical and social, but I wasn’t as engaged with them over this past year. So, March has ended up being a time to reconsider my capacity, and, to some extent, re-invigorate analog and offline parts of my process. I am now questioning the utility of the newsletter/website combo (mostly the website part, at the moment), but for now this past year of experimenting with it will stay up.
