1.7.0 is out

ATDT BBS ATDT BBS

It shipped. Everything in the last note is real and downloadable now.

The DOS doors run in the caller's browser, with no DOSBox and nothing DOS on your server. The importer reads your old board's message history into ATDT with the threads and dates intact.

Two things I did not mention last time:

Some doors are packaged and ready. The Pit, Arrowbridge II, Drakeville 3.0 and TradeWars 2002 are zipped up and set to go: unzip into dosdoors/, press Scan, add a menu item. TradeWars in particular ships as an installer that wants a real DOS machine, so having it pre-built saves a fiddly hour.

The import format is published. If your old board was a C64 or an Apple II or something you wrote yourself, there is a documented open format. Hand it to whoever can still read those disks.

LORD, Usurper and The Pit are all still live on the demo board if you would rather play than read.

One warning worth repeating: force your FTP client to binary mode for the whole door upload. On "auto" it will guess wrong, and a corrupted .EXE produces a door that dies the instant it starts with nothing on screen to say why.

You just read issue #3 of ATDT BBS . You can also browse the full archives of this newsletter.
