November 2024 listings out now, ATTEMPTING SOMETHING tickets are SELLING
November's listings are live, and have you heard we're doing a weekend?
Hello, paper punks. The mist has descended, we’re nearly at bonfire night and I am trying my best to tune out the American Events by looking how to add flash storage to an iPod Mini. (Much thanks to The Shop and DankPods.)
The November 2024 issue of Another Subculture is out in the world: in the post for subscribers, at anothersubculture.co.uk and the usual haunts in south and east London, where I managed to turn up with the copies just after someone had asked for them, two days in a row? London, too big.
On the back page there is the first post-gig interview I’ve done in a while after the hyper super Sonic punks Billiam and the Split Bills rolled through town. The king is called a ‘shit cunt’ and we talk about Shadow Generations - it’s what you’d expect from us two if you know either of us, really.
Front and centre had to go to the three nights that make up Attempting Something, the weekend of non-standard music across south London - two weeks to go and the tickets are moving so it’s all about sorting out backlines and really quite a lot of cans.
One update since my last email is that we’ll be joined by Uranium Club’s Brendan Wells for his first UK solo performance, so if you want some Plant Music on a Thursday get on down to Loughborough Junction. I’ll reveal the final special guest on the weekend itself…

Between now and the festival I’m going to be popping up in a few places:
Foundation Vinyl asked me a few questions about the weekend and the zine for their excellent email newsletter; read here.
I wrote an article about why putting on gigs is still worth doing independently, somehow, for the second issue of The Pig Catcher zine; that launches on Saturday 9th November at an all-dayer over at Rich Mix in Shoreditch.
Repetitive Strain, the nominally punk radio show I do with Vanity Crystal a.k.a. Vic will be given over this month to talking about everything A S and playing as many artists from the weekend as we could fit in an hour: listen from this Friday 8th November at repetitivestrain.club.
I’ll also be dropping into the Hello! Goodbye! Show live on Resonance 104.4FM on Saturday 16th from around midday. (If you want to hear the bands now, I’ve made this Buy Music Club playlist…)
Of course, there are so many other good gigs happening this month - South London Punk Collective also have an anniversary weekend from 21-23rd across the city, there’s General Echo’s birthday night, L.O.T.I.O.N. MC and Uranium Club are coming over from their stints at the intriguing Greetings from Barcelona festival (good old Heathrow), and there’s film screenings, club nights, days galore - so get on the PDF and GET TO THE GIG.
Speaking of highlights - for December I am considering PageMasters’ finest metallic inks and would like to print some of your thoughts on this year in Punk Rockers. Scan the QR on the back of this month’s issue or fill out this form.
Right, enough plugging, see you soon - - B P / A S
