ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES AT THE AVALON CAFE - 26 June 2022 with Fluid Tower/Middleman/Skitter/Sniffany and the Nits/Vanity Crystal + issue one almost gone!
Hello, paper punks.
Hope you've all enjoyed the long weekend in a bunting-free way - in what feels like the largest choice of gigs in London since the Virus, I ended up seeing Lysol, Lorraine James, Jessy Lanza, The Annihilated and Es four days on the trot, before only getting out of bed yesterday in order to toast Wales, Grimsby Town and [redacted]. Knackered, forgot my earplugs, happy. Covid-free, mercifully (keep those lateral flows to hand!) So with that in mind, let's give this a go:
Another Subculture presents the first ALTERNATIVE STRATEGIES AFTERNOON, a daylight gig to celebrate the longest week, at the AVALON CAFE on Sunday 26th June. Doors 3pm, done by 9.
Come down to the Surrey Canal Road and pogo by the incinerator to FLUID TOWER (Garden Centre aligned machine pop), MIDDLEMAN (new Brainrotter fuzzy punks), SKITTER (scratchy new hardcore), SNIFFANY AND THE NITS (cartoon punk darlings) and VANITY CRYSTAL (flits and bursts and ambience).
There may be more bands, there may be dance music, I might bring my Mega Drive down. This event will be livestreamed: how and why is to be confirmed and if you have tips and tricks, we are all ears. IT IS PUNK TIME and it would be lovely to see you there.
🎟 Tickets are on sale now! 🎫
£6.00 (£3.00 unwaged/Universal Credit) plus booking fee.
One more thing: deliriously happy to be able to say that my box of issue ones is running dry. You can now grab a copy of Alternative Strategies all across London - at Books Peckham, Duplikat Press, Housmans, MagCulture, South London Gallery, Tome Records, WASTE! and World of Echo - and also up in Glasgow's Good Press. Got a couple more stockists in mind, but otherwise if you want one posted you should be quick - I'm 90% gone and will be keeping the final copies for the gig on the 26th! So if you want to read up on Brainrotter, cool radios or where the New River goes, click here...
And then... there's issue two. Want to get something in there, or support the magazine with an advert? Give us a bell...
That'll do for now. Take care, make a fanzine, see you down the SCR - - B P / A S
