A fun Summer challenge and other writerly news

Hello lovely FF&SS reader fam,

This month I have some exciting news, and a fun summer challenge. First let’s get to the news.

What’s happening in my world

As of May 25th, I started the 90-day novel writing challenge through The Company, and it was at this point that I made a big discovery in my writing. Instead of focusing on The Shadow on the Stepping Stones, I need to write Martha’s story, so that readers will understand what’s happening in the land of Rose Haven from start to finish, before we get into Merrie Roundtree’s disappearance and Becca and Maggie’s story. Shadow is book three of the Round Tree Family Saga. This is exciting for me, because it means I get to play around with it, and learn what really makes Martha act the way she does, and opens up a world of possibilities for the rest of the series and any continuations thereafter.

Freelance writing news

On the professional front, I wrote a blog about how home healthcare providers ensure the safety and well-being of patients during recovery for a healthcare provider, which I will not name drop here, because I haven’t signed an actual contract with them yet. I’ll keep you posted once I learn the outcome of the paid project.

Bookish news

My audiobook narrator uploaded Praying Through the Seasons to ACX for me, which puts my audiobook on audible, Amazon and Apple Books. I’ll keep you posted and share the link once the book is available for purchase. Keep an eye on your inbox, because you may get a quick update email between newsletters to announce the audiobook release.

A Summer fun challenge

Read the following description and see if you can guess which one of my writing tools I am describing. If you guess it correctly, You will receive either an eBook version of The Spirit of Creativity or Praying Through the Seasons. Hit reply with your answers and I’ll pick one lucky winner at random. Without further ado, here’s your challenge.

I am a special friend. I come with blank pages ready to fill at the drop of a hat.

The feel of the pencil rubbing across my pages fills me with joy because I know that I am being used for good to help my friend pour out her heart to God, and to me when she has ideas. If I were human, I’d let her whisper her thoughts in my ear all day long if she wanted to.

What fascinating thoughts would she tell me? What prayers would I send up to heaven?

But I’m not the only friend she has. She has other friends like me of varying sizes. We keep all her secrets, church and conference notes, and so much more. But there are times when I wish she’d let me tell her my secrets if that were possible. Instead of being trapped under a band or on a shelf, if I could talk, I’d respond to all her whimsical writings and maybe even share some wisdom of my own. What am I?

As a reminder, hit reply with your answers for a chance to win one of my books in either ePub or PDF. I can even gift it to you as a Kindle if you choose.

Author Spotlight

And last, but certainly not least, this is the section where I introduce a new author to you each month. If you have an author you’d like me to introduce to the rest of the fam, or if you’re an author yourself and you’d like to be featured, please hit reply with your author bio, your book title along with the description and purchase link, and a link to your website or your newsletter.

This month’s author is Jen Dodrill. Her featured book is entitled Finding Ginny.
