What Are Your Life Eras? (Plus a Doodle of Mine)

Hello

Thanks to everyone who celebrated my 50th birthday with me in various ways (or tolerated me saying it was my birthday a lot!). What a wonderful, special week.

Friday’s Feel Good Networking walk was particularly uplifting, fun and relaxing. The weather was thankfully slightly cooler than it had been and we had a glorious wander through the trees. As we went, we also pondered the landmarks and eras of our own lives.

We can sometimes think of our lives as a pressured journey to get ‘somewhere’. We march along and aim to hit certain milestones (before we inevitably age and die). We can feel we are ‘behind’ or ‘doing it wrong’. So, it feels more right to think of our lives as having phases or eras and turning points. At different times we focus on different things depending on what’s going on for us.

For example, my twenties were all about building my own life. Establishing myself in my career and living in a city. It felt more of a climb. My forties have been more about building community and relationships with resilience at the heart of it. It felt more like wandering in a park.

Have a look at this doodle of the eras of my own life and I invite you to ponder:

  • What have been some of your life eras?
  • And turning points?
  • And what era are you in or entering now?

A black and white doodle of the eras of my life. A Country Mouse childhood, City & Career focus in my 20s, Children & Cancer in my 30s, Resilience & Family Anchor in my 40s and a question mark for my 50s.

I’ll be going slow work-wise this month. We’ll be back in September with a Feel Good Networking wander in Greenwich.

Hope you get to have some rest and summery wanders this August.
