Enjoy the wiggly slog of showing up for a goal
Hello
Hope you’re enjoying the heat, wind, sun, rain or whatever weather is going on where you are right now!
Our last Feel Good Networking Walk sparked some really lovely conversations about 'showing up', so I wanted to share a few thoughts. Take a moment to ponder what showing up looks like for you…
____
We all know the classic model: set a goal, show up, make progress, get there. A straight line from start to finish. We know it rarely works that way — even if part of us wishes it did.
Because showing up is actually wiggly. If we are coming back from burnout or we’re worn out, we need time to get started. When we do get going, we need to accept things take longer than we think. There’ll also be a bit where nothing happens and we wonder if we should keep going. And we may miss our goal and get an unexpected outcome instead.
Plus, we take with us everything else that we have going on – physical health, neurodiversity, caring roles we have, changes or big events that are already happening for us. We take that weight with us and go at different speeds.
In the classic model, the goal is the good bit. In the wiggly model, all of it is the good bit.
Here's what helps:
· Set realistic goals — do a little less, and pause to notice what you do achieve
· Connect with others — everyone's having a wiggly time too
· Take care of yourself — go slow, recharge, and laugh as you go
So - what helps you build resilience and enjoy the wiggly route to that goal?
