hi friends,
it’s me again, and i’m back with a few essays.
but before that, i want to share a few things:
first, i attended a wedding a few days ago and caught the bouquet during the toss for the first time ever. i pretended to be cool about it, but i was secretly thrilled. it's fun to play fantasy and be congratulated for something that hasn’t happened yet. here's a pic of me shortly after:
the second thing i want to share is my appreciation for you! just by being alive, the world has given me so many opportunities to be grateful for everything. i want to extend my thanks to you for being a part of my life. whether you're a friend, acquaintance, or someone i went to high school or college with, i love you!
for this holiday season, my wish for you is to be happy, and that 2025 be the year that you realize all your riches.
now for my essays...
i don't know how i never heard of this show before because it's a high-ranking show in my book. they also have one of the best series finales that ever aired.
i've been waiting to watch this documentary for 3 years. if you want to see me indulge on beatles lore, read this.
a movie recommended by a high school classmate 10 years ago. it's one of those that are hard to watch, but have an important message.
• yule playlist: it's nice to hear ariana grande, mariah carey, and michael bublé every year in the mall, but we have to elevate our taste, people. if you're going to host a christmas dinner, consider going classy and playing these tracks.
• julian lennon on the joe rogan experience: i'm still in beatles mode after writing my essay on their documentary. coincidentally, JRE released an episode with julian the same time i was writing my piece (synchronicity!). i loved this interview because rogan barely touched on his megastar father and focused on julian as a person & artist. he's is also very pleasant and likeable.
• the art of contemplation: my favorite read this 2024. goodreads sent me an email of my year in review, and i was reminded of this book. it's 98 pages of simple and timeless wisdom. reading it feels like you're making love with life. it's worth the contemplation, indeed.
• the double life of veronique (1991): a french film about two versions of a woman—one polish and the other french—living parallel lives. one suffers a negative fate, while the other doesn’t. it’s a complex film about metaphysics, fate, and free will. to feel connected with someone you haven’t met doesn’t seem far-fetched to me. this picture may be a fantasy, but it touched something very real within me—a perfume of melancholy and poetry that lingers on you.
that's all i have for this week, dear friends. the next time i write to you will be either before or after the new year.
i wish you all a merry christmas and happy holidays!
may your days be merry & bright.
xx
