Hope you had a lovely break and feeling positive about 2022. Going to skip the chat this week and head straight to the links as you've probably done enough reading of email text for one week. I'm only here because PK told me to do this.
An Introduction to Gorpcore
I've been enjoying buying ugly trail running trainers recently and posted my latest pair to Instagram. Someone then commented that they were very 'gorp', cue confused face emoji. Fortunately they explained and linked me to the article above which is fascinating. Finally I'm in fashion (kind of), I hoped we might overlap at some point. Thanks to Dom for the link.

Buying that thing, then all the other things that go with it and you REALLY need. All felt a little too familiar.
The Wire - Ten years on
Rather than look at Twitter all Christmas I got stuck into The Wire for the first time. I was good at first and just watched one episode a day, but then the binge came. FEED ME FIVE EPISODES AT ONCE UNTIL IT'S 3AM! A slight hole was left after completing it sadly and almost feel like watching it again. Everyone seems so compromised and you end up liking the wrong people a lot of the time. A work of art. Oh, that also led me to research one of the comments made by the main character, McNulty, about whiskey. This supercut of Senator Clay Davis saying his usual catchphrase is also quite the thing!
Why is LinkedIn so cringe?
A really good takedown of it all. The "...and the dog was the interviewer" always tickles me.

Turns out, it's not that hard! Doesn't make it any less shocking though.

1972 and apparently not been repeated since. Let me just watch that again!

There's a lot of talk about inflation and the rising cost of living. But how about we measure it in terms of the cost of popular chocolates instead?

A really neat little mapping website. Interesting to see how far you can get on all sorts of modes of transport and not the even circle you might imagine. I think I found this via LinkedIn (I know) and they were using it to show that cycling was far quicker in London and had a far greater range for the same time period.
