Occasional links - 14.11.2020

Hello,

How was your week? Ok, that’s not great and sorry to hear that. But it’s over now and we’re into the weekend and have a few things to share with you. I was unsure whether to do this today but have a beer in my hand and not much else to do right now so why not. Zero Dark 30 can wait a few more mins. I’ll skip the politics this week although news continues to improve it seems - come on 2020 let’s turn it around at the end!

Why you're reflecting on past mistakes more than ever before
Really interesting article - I know, I always say that - but please believe me. Lots of great bits to quote but have refrained as would detract from the article.

An Oral History Of Radiohead’s ‘OK Computer’
Satire at its best. It just keeps on going. Funny, but probably requires some basic Radiohead knowledge to get the full lol experience.

A Big Fat Sky
Really into these. Like Niall McDiarmid but more architectural? Either way, stunning work and worth a follow.

Photographer Max Miechowski captures life along the British east coast. Driving up and down the coastline in a rented car, Max snaps the "subtle complexities" of its landscapes and people. With a dreamy and rich aesthetic, his atmospheric images reflect the nostalgia from his memories of visiting these places as a child.

Inventing the crappiest high speed rail
A wonderfully scathing review of the Virgin Hyperloop thing. Best not to read if you’re a techbro. So many good lines I’d love to quote here but the last paragraph is just superb.

An Architecture Critic Looks at Four Seasons Total Landscaping
Just perfection in written form. I still can’t quite believe this happened and that we aren’t living in some form of ridiculous simulation. Anyway, more on that another time I suspect. Tempting to buy some of their merchandise.

Caretakers of small islands
Seems tempting to dream about the solitude and beauty of all. But must be a tough existence.
Via Mark and the Linkaroo.

Chris Dorley Brown
Mentioned this to a friend after seeing one of her lovely photos today. Reminded me that not everyone knows about his work. The link above is to Instagram but also a huge archive of work on Flickr. Remember Flickr?

Piranesi etchings vs photography
Three centuries apart. And yes I think I will link to this account once a week now. Seems like it’s become a thing.

The golden age of Naval idiocy has not disappeared
Don’t pick on the bigger ship. Good follow on Twitter also.

A sausage dog on a trampoline
I guarantee this is the best video of a sausage dog on a trampoline you will see this week. Or your money back. Also, a bonus dog vid.

That’s all folks. I’m off to ride my bicycle and drink coffee.

Love as always,

Andy
