Far too much news this week and has felt somewhat overwhelming for all of us I think. No massive intro this week as I have some news of my own. 

A new thing from my good pal James and I... We’ve formed a new architecture and design studio. We’re super excited and are looking forward to working on projects together with great clients! Maybe with you?

I thought this was something from The Onion at first but is instead quite a sweet story of a scientist who couldn't be in California, for obvious reasons.

Probably avoid if you haven't see it as contains spoilers but well worth watching, then reading. Priscilla Page is one of the most interesting writers on film and well worth a follow. Her essay on Collateral was also incredible - I may have posted before. 

50 cognitive biases in the modern world
Lots that interested me here. Especially the zeigarnik effect - we remember incomplete tasks more than completed ones. Nice and visual rather than a big long list of text. 

The books behind the buildings, Tony Fretton
Not sure how I found this but this is a lovely interview with Tony Fretton on his love of books. Some more interviews with other architects are available on the bar on the left hand side. Buying architecture books is addictive and very expensive and I really must to do more of it. 

Dump your inner Drill Sergeant
I've linked to The Happiness Lab previously but this was a good episode on not beating yourself up all the time. It's the start of a new mini series they've been running. This James O'Brien interview with Elizabeth Day is also really very good on a similar theme (thanks Neil). I like that both interviewers really seem to list to their guests rather than talk over them as per Mr Buxton. The whole of this mini series has been fascinating and has also introduced me to the idea of R.A.I.N with a couple of quite moving examples. 

France is Bacon
A much needed smile was brought to my face by seeing this again. Maybe it will bring one to yours.

A quite extraordinary piece of writing from Patrick Freyne at The Irish Times. The intro, um, wow.

Again. Extraordinary work. All done in one take. And not just any bowling alley but the one which inspired The Big Lebowksi as it’s where the wrap party for Fargo took place. Another person related it to the 'through the house scene' in David Fincher's 2002 Panic Room.
