Occasional links - 06.02.2021

Hello,

Another week done. The greyness of the weather appears to be easing and the evenings are getting lighter. That's about all the positivity I can muster this week so here's your damn links.

The Simpsons intro recreated using only stock footage
Clever stuff. How people manage to do these things always astounds me.

London pubs of old
Remember pubs? I miss them dearly. Actually I miss my friends in pubs, the spaces only become alive with people in them. Tins of IPA at home just aren't the same. What I wouldn't give for an evening / afternoon in Stormbird with friends right now.

Day 34, Wed 3 Feb 2021. Murmuration cloud from Brighton Pier
Have only seen one a few times but took my breath away. Here's a stunning image of one for you.

A Spaniel in deep snow
Those ears... See also this rather wonderful video. Sod it, here's another dog link. Ok, and one more. Maybe these should split out into a new newsletter of their own.

Why do you care so much about fonts?
No Calibri isn't a font. This story of Calibri and catching a corrupt official through it is wild though.

...attempting to use music theory to explain how syncopation leaves you vulnerable to demonic possession
You heard. Love those demonic beats, hook me up with more godless music. Thanks Matt.

Every Hitchcock cameo
Love these. Immortalising yourself in your films is a rather nice thing to do.

Gable ends I have seen
Lovely ends of buildings. Also see Gable Fable.

Handforth Parish Council Planning and Environment Committee
Not quite what you would expect with the title but a hilarious watch all the same. And of course has inspired all sorts of memes such as "Handforth Parish Council as a Netflix documentary" and interestingly this post on the Law and Policy blog. Strong Greater Good energy all round. Also discussion of who will play all the characters...

Not quite sure how anything can top that but...

Things that British people do that are weird
Some I agree with, others less so.

And another bonus link...

Ben Watt's SpinCycle
A lot of music in a playlist slowly built up over six years - available on Spotify or AppleMusic.

That's all folks, have a lovely weekend.

Love as always,

Andy x
