(re)framing art
Two weeks in a row of newsletters?! What’s happening? I’d like to avoid contributing to the inevitable glut of emails that will hit your inboxes following American Thanksgiving. This will be quick and fun! (Part II of the writing from last week will head your way in early December.)
Stoma comic update

I’ve only worked on the first two panels, and admittedly me sharing one of them here serves to put a fire under my butt to draw more 😅 I would like to finish this before the first anniversary of my colectomy, and the clock is ticking!
Anyway, I’m quite pleased with the line work in this panel. I expect this comic will be ~2-3 pages, so it’ll be a quick autobio story.
(re)framing art
Last Sunday I spent a couple of hours messing around with picture frames I’ve picked up here and there. Most of the frames I have fall into two categories: 1) frames I’ve had for years, or 2) frames I’ve found literally on the sidewalk in my neighborhood recently. I was working with frames in the latter category.
A lot of them are made of reclaimed wood, like the image below. I find them really striking, beautiful, and perfect for images that are rustic or climate-oriented. That said, they were clearly made by someone raised on the metric system, because their dimensions are weird if you measure them in inches.

Many of these frames are quite small, perfect for a classic family photo. I thought it would be fun to make ironic juxtapositions with some of the frames, like this one…

Normally I find framing my artwork to be a chore tbh. This was the first time I really had fun with it, maybe because it was all about experimentation and tinkering. Furthermore, it was rewarding to flip through sketchbooks and find several drawings I like more now than I did when I made them. I hope some of them can find homes soon!
