New art @ Sour Cherry + other news
New work at Sour Cherry Comics
I didn’t think I’d get to participate in an art event so early after my surgery, but fortunately the owner of Sour Cherry Comics, Leah, makes it very easy for artists already with art on the wall to swap out art for new shows. Consequently, I have three pieces debuting at the art opening on January 25, 6-pm @ 3187 16th St in San Francisco. I won’t be able to attend the opening (my body and mind still aren’t quite ready for parties), but you should go! The three pieces haven’t been displayed publicly before!

Creative writing blog
Quietly, when I have a few spare moments, I have been compiling some of my writing on my website. So far I have three short pieces from a climate writing project I worked on with friends a few years ago. I have a couple more pieces from that project to add to the blog, but I’ll let you know when they’re there.
In the future I may add some bad poetry, expand upon old tweet threads, or who knows what…stay tuned, sports fans!
In other writing news…(commentary on current SFF events)
I imagine many of you have heard about the many graphic sexual assault allegations brought forth against Neil Gaiman. While this is far from the usual topic of my newsletter, I feel morally obligated to mention it because I was a Gaiman fan for years, and years ago I highlighted some of my work in a series of newsletter editions where I discussed artists who have inspired my work. Another day, another celebrity for whom I’ve lost all respect…I wrote a few pithy comments about this on Bluesky if you’re interested.
The Sandman was a particularly pivotal influence for me, so I am reckoning with what to do with that. In the flurry of news this week I found out that a lot of the components of it were lifted from the work of Tanith Lee, and she was aware of Gaiman’s plagiarism. So, maybe look her up and get some of her books. I already have some of her books on hold at my library. Other writers mentioned in the Gaiman conversation are Angela Carter and Roger Zelazny, who I’m going to read up on soon.
