I write about mental models - ideas with clear conceptual boundaries which can be systematically analyzed.
There has been no shortage of occassions where I’ve found mental models like “antifragility” or “postmodernism” or “coalition building” useful in surprisingly remote domains like software engineering or biology.
The wonderful thing about mental models is that they generalize: you can pick them up, turn them around, study them, and see if they fit somewhere else. Very often, they do.
