If you don’t already know me, I’m a (mostly) classical and operatic singer, but hold those identifiers loosely.
Personally speaking, I think it’s true: opera is a dying art. Which is exactly why I love it.
I am a great appreciator of all things emo and gothic and that’s often reflected in my solo projects. Death, madness, opulence, tragedy, the meaning of life — opera does these things well.
So do many, many other genres of music from cabaret to bubblegum pop. If it’s pulpy, campy, and over-the-top, I will sing it. If it’s understated, mournful, and classy, I will also sing it!
