A bit of Housekeeping
From the Alberta Basketry Guild board of directors.
As the Alberta Basketry Guild Board of Directors, we would like to formally address an unfortunate accident that occurred on Thursday.
A copyright concern was brought to the Board's attention at our last meeting on February 5, 2025.
During that meeting, the issue was discussed intensively with care resulting in a decision being made. The parties involved were advised of this decision. While the discussion and decision were specific to this situation, it also identified the need to develop an Alberta Basketry Guild policy on intellectual property.
Afterwards a confidentiality breach occurred with a post to an inappropriate chat group. An effort was made to remove the post but due to technology blocks of access, it was not possible.
We would also like to recognize the delays and simplicity of previous responses to the matter. We are a new Board and are learning how to respond as a Board and as an individual. Due to the sensitivity of the issue, we needed time to discuss the issue and how to prevent future similar issues.
To help in this we have immediately implemented a course of action that includes labelling of chats and platforms to store information securely. We also plan on having conversations at our next board meeting involving board roles and new chat forums. We hope to have some Guild and Board Policies to present at the Alberta Basketry Guild AGM on March 7th, 2025.
