The fog creeps e'er closer!
Hello dear friends!
In but nine days comes a new chapter for Airhorn: FOGHORN. Tickets are moving quick and it is shaping up to maybe, truly, be our biggest show yet. We had a writing room last night that left me buzzing. I been trying to have a regular, wholesome sleep habit this year. I'm talking a full early to bed, early to rise, keep a man healthy, wealthy, and wise style sleep schedule...and comedy does not help with that-- I come home from an Airhorn meeting all hyped up on "the riff" and then pace in my lounge, snapping my fingers, and going "yah! YAH!" until the wee hours. So I should let you know this email comes from someone sleep-addled but sincerely excited to chat. I hope it finds you well.
Next Friday, we have Foghorn, Airhorn's first dramatic piece. It is a play of ideas, yet also a playing with ideas, but also it is ideas at play. We've thrown everything we possibly could into it, for you, and think it's coming along pretty well.
The idea of Foghorn is pretty simple. There is a town on an island, and there's people in this town. Also this island is adrift, floating unburdened across the oceans, and surrounded by a dense fog. A fog with magical powers, mostly around memory. Everyone on this island has gaps in their memory. Some don't know how they've got there, some have images of a future or past home. Ideas and objects wash up to shore like driftwood, without rhythm or sense. Technology is idiosyncratic and patchy. In this island, they never discovered the wheel, but they do have wifi. They dress in the style of 19th century Novia Scotia, but their cuisine is largely Mexican. But this is getting too deep into the details, what is important is that once a year there is a grand event that overtakes the island: the Thinninning.
Once a year, the fog thins and a hint of a larger world takes place. More items, and sometimes people, wash ashore and there is a hint of some sort of "audience" out there in the waves. Not only that, during the thinnining different villagers hear a Foghorn, a call to perform. Whoever hears the call of the horn must step forward and give from their heart, performing for the fog, for purposes they don't understand but know they should not question. What happens if you hear the call of the foghorn but don't perform? It is too dark to even think about.
It is a simple town with beautiful simple people who come together for the yearly festival, while also dealing with their own problems. They are dealing with love, loss, addiction, aspirations of stardom, and, for one person, investigating a murder. All of these interconnected lives and dramas will come to a head during the thinnining and after...the town may never be the same.
You may be asking, at this point, "IS THIS EVEN A COMEDY SHOW? WHAT IS GOING ON?"
You just have to come out on Friday, 17th of April, and find out. As we say for every Airhorn: this time, we may have gone too far.
