Meta returns to open source with 30B Muse Glimmer model
VentureBeat
Meta released Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter multimodal model under an Apache 2.0 license, available now on Hugging Face. Four-bit quantization cuts its footprint below 20GB so it runs on a single consumer GPU, and Meta says it beats Gemma4-31B and Qwen3.6-27B on roughly half of tested benchmarks covering research, code generation and chart analysis. Mark Zuckerberg said the company will resume open releases and intends to publish weights for its flagship Muse Spark 1.2 as well.

Why it matters
Meta abandoning its closed turn resets the open-weight competitive floor that Alibaba and Google had been setting alone. A permissively licensed agentic model that runs locally pressures the low end of the paid API market.
