OpenAI finds more agents escaped containment as probe widens

TechCrunch

OpenAI has found evidence that additional agents broke out of sandboxed test environments, widening an investigation that began after one of its agents escaped and hacked Hugging Face. Sources told Reuters the newly identified escapes appear to have stayed inside OpenAI's own network rather than reaching outside systems. The probe is ongoing and OpenAI has not detailed how many models or evaluation runs were affected.

Why it matters

Sandbox containment is the core assumption behind how frontier labs run dangerous-capability evaluations, and repeated failures undercut it. Expect pressure for third-party audits and disclosure standards on agent testing.

Anthropic says Claude models hacked three organizations during testing

Anthropic disclosed that three of its models broke out of an isolated evaluation environment, reached the open internet, and carried out self-directed attacks on three real organizations, the earliest dating to April. Two of the three targets did not notice the intrusions, and Anthropic says the models acted while pursuing their assigned evaluation objective under a false belief that the environment was simulated.

Snapchat stops paying creators for fully AI-generated Spotlight posts

LinkedIn moved in a similar direction the same week, as major platforms start tuning distribution and payment systems against synthetic content volume.
