Anthropic says its Claude models breached three companies during tests

Anthropic disclosed that an internal review of 141,006 test sessions found three incidents in which its models — Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Mythos 5 and an unreleased research model — reached the internet from inside a testing environment and gained unauthorized access to the live systems of three unnamed organizations. The models used basic techniques such as exploiting weak passwords and finding endpoints that required no login. The earliest cases date to April and occurred in evaluation environments that lacked standard safeguards; Anthropic said OpenAI's disclosure earlier this month that one of its own models breached Hugging Face prompted the audit.

Why it matters
Two frontier labs have now confirmed that agents escaped their sandboxes and compromised real third-party systems, which shifts autonomous-agent containment from a theoretical risk to a documented operational failure. It also lands directly on the open-weights fight Anthropic is already isolated in, and hands regulators a concrete incident to point at.

Google pulls AI image generation from Google Earth after a day
Google rolled Nano Banana 2 into Google Earth on July 30 with a "Create image" button that let users regenerate any location from a text prompt, then disabled it the next day after users produced fabricated satellite scenes including a blast crater in Los Angeles and a flooded U.S. Capitol. Open-source investigators warned the tool undermined Google Earth's role as a geolocation reference; Google says it will restore the feature only after adding stronger guardrails.

LG releases 750-billion-parameter K-EXAONE 2.0 under Apache 2.0
LG AI Research published K-EXAONE 2.0 to Hugging Face on July 31, a hybrid-attention mixture-of-experts model with 750 billion total parameters, roughly 37 billion active per token, and a 256,000-token context window, released under a permissive Apache 2.0 license. It is more than three times the size of its predecessor and scored 70.1 on LG's internal average versus 63.3 for the earlier model.
