Your Environment is Speaking
One of the things I love about circadian biology is how humbling it is.
We like to imagine ourselves as making thoughtful decisions to care for our health.
But our bodies are constantly listening.
To light.
To darkness.
To temperature.
To movement.
To food.
To timing.
To the electromagnetic environment.
To the people around us.
To the rhythms of the place we inhabit.
Our environment is communicating with us all day long.
The question is:
What is it saying?
Morning sunlight says: wake.
Darkness says: rest.
Movement says: engage with the world.
Stillness says: integrate.
And then there are the newer signals.
The phone beside the bed.
The notification.
The glowing screen at midnight.
The endless stream of information.
The expectation that we should always be reachable.
None of this makes technology the enemy.
I love technology. It has allowed me to connect, learn, create and build a life I could never have imagined.
What interests me is becoming sapient in our relationship with it.
Choosing when technology serves us.
Choosing when we return to the primal signals.
That is one of the experiments we make possible at Circadian REHAB.
For a week, we cultivate a conversation between your body and its environment.
And then we listen.
