Happy Monday, 21043! Hope y'all had a great weekend.
I hit the Old Ellicott City Farmers Market last weekend and it was delightful. Live music, a breakfast crepe, a chicken salad croissant, and an iced coffee. Zero regrets.
We're in for a chilly but SUNNY week. Hoodie season is officially here.
Halloween is 12 days away, and this week's ZIP is loaded: a pumpkin patch in a pool, a kids costume parade, and early voting opening right here in 21043.
Let's dive in:

🏡 The market is tilting toward buyers. In many parts of the country, sellers now outnumber buyers, so there's more room to negotiate. The catch: mortgage rates ticked up in the second half of 2026, keeping monthly payments high and keeping plenty of buyers on the sidelines.

Elkridge was a seaport before Baltimore existed.
Elk Ridge Landing was founded in 1690 as a deep-water port, with a channel 10 to 14 feet deep that brought ships in from the Chesapeake Bay. Until Baltimore was established in 1729, it was a gateway for shipping tobacco, grain, lumber, and iron. Huge barrels of tobacco were rolled down "rolling roads" to the landing for shipment overseas. Then deforestation and erosion slowly silted in the river, and by 1868 the port could no longer be used. You can still see part of the old landing site at the Elkridge Furnace Inn.
