About those money announcements
Which, cool, but what does that mean for singles?
So I got the AZ vaccine last week and not going to lie, it knocked me on my ass for a couple of days to the point of maybe not sending something out this week. #GenXZeneca.
But while I was sitting on the couch drinking chicken noodle soup, eating chips and watching Korean supernatural thrillers on Netflix, there were a rash of money-related announcements not only from the Federal government but from the Bank of Canada. The big focus was the deficit by certain people but there were some other good nuggets in there. The good thing is that the budget wasn’t an austerity one which is good because austerity budgets didn’t seem to help the many.
So what was in the budget that could help us individually? I pulled out a couple that I thought were relevant.
There was the promise of creating an affordable daycare plan, which is great for everyone whether you’ve got kids or not. That’s been covered quite extensively but why it’s so important is that daycare is very, very expensive in most provinces, averaging out at $10,000 a year according to a 2019 report from childcarecanada.org. Toronto cost $1,774/month at the time of the report. That’s a salary or more for some people. So having affordable daycare means more income for other things, which can be better for everyone (and the economy, etc.) but key for women, who have been extremely affected by the Shecession caused by the pandemic. Yes, economic help for women starts with affordable daycare.
