Introducing The Hibernation Meditations!

Now is not the time for resolutions.
It is a time for Rest.
A time for Hibernation.Ā
Ā
This time of year can be very confusing for our bodies, with the natural growing darkness and it’s invitation for rest, combined with the barrage of flashing lights, holiday pressures and looming ideas about ā€˜new years’ and resolutions.

At Kindred Soil we are following the logic that this is not the end or the beginning of the year, this is in fact midwinter – so we are trying to find spaces and ways to lean more into nature’s rhythms and invitation to hibernate! šŸ¦”

Following the success of our previous series of EcoNidra meditations, I am delighted to share this new and special series of meditations, designed to support you to reconnect with the rhythms of this season.Ā

Ā
The series is available to sign up now!Ā
Deadline to sign up is 3rd January.Ā

The Meditations will be sent out weekly throughout January – each week you will receive a differentĀ meditation recording, some background and prompts for supportingĀ your practice, as well as an optional ā€˜Community Practice’ time – where you can choose to practice along at the same time as me and others.

Find out more by clicking the button below - if you have any questions don't hesitate to get in touch with me either replying to this email or you can contact me on instagram.

I am so excited to practice EcoNidra with you again!

Ā
"No animal, according to the rules of animal-etiquette, is ever expected to do anything strenuous, or heroic, or even moderately active during the off-season of winter."
- Kenneth Grahame

Humans are one of the few animals to have somehow lost touch with the winter rhythm of slowing down, of minimising output and prioritising rest. I was fascinated to see a recent post from Dr Ayesha Khan about how 'Seasons aren't causing our depression - Capitalism is'.

Resting can be very hard.Ā I want to name that because sometimes we can presume it will be easy, but we have been conditioned to resist it... I have been shockedĀ to notice that as I have seen some improvements in my health/Ā my 'baseline', that my hard-won, hard-learned pacing and resting skills seem to have fallen away almost immediately. I'm having toĀ intentionally re-engageĀ withĀ these practices. So I don't claimĀ to be the best at rest!

I do however know very well the importance of rest - having learned the hard way. Many of us, especially those with lived experience of chronic illnessĀ or burnout, will know that sleep doesn't always make us feel rested (and isn't always available to us even when we are exhausted).

I have been reading about the different types of rest - according to Dr Saundra Dalton-Smith, she says there are 7 main types of rest: physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, social, sensory and creative. Rest is often framed as being passive or an absenceĀ of 'stuff' - my experience is that it is in fact an active and intentional choice;Ā it is aĀ practice.Ā

My invitation to you for this month...

Should you choose to accept it... is to consider which of these forms of rest you might most need, and how you could invite more of them into DecemberĀ ā„ļøĀ

I'm going to be sharing how nature can potentially support us in these on the Kindred Soil Instagram page and stories. I'd love to connect with you there and hear your thoughts and experiences with this. I will also share the work of others who inspire me in terms of approaches and practices of rest.Ā

Live events update

I have been incredibly moved and delighted that there has been so much interest in our recent live events that both events in December SOLD OUT before the month even began!

I know some people were disappointed not to have gotten tickets - please don't worry,Ā there will be more events in the future.

I usually keep the ticket numbers small so that we can have an intimate group. If you want to know when events go live, the best way is to either follow us on Eventbrite or on Instagram.Ā I will be releasing the next circle and Celtic Wheel dates early in Jan.

I am also working on creating recorded, self-paced versions of the Celtic Wheel events - possibly starting with Imbolc. These will hopefully make the activities more accessible in terms of timing and in terms of pacing.

RECENT CIRCLE FEEDBACKĀ

Some generous words of feedback from our most recent online Circle Space
Ā
"An amazing evening with beautiful people. I felt listened to, I felt warmth and I felt joy. I don’t know any other experience that can give so much. Harriet creates such a beautiful space and I’m so grateful, thank you."

"Love, respect and vulnerability gathered from across the globe, and all from the comfort of my own armchair. How special. I came away from this Circle Space knowing more about myself than when I went in and I found in the other participants something of myself. I left with things that I want to explore further in myself and in nature. I can't wait until the next circle!"
