TGT - 8th September 2026 - Star Trek

Star Trek was first broadcast 60 years ago on Tuesday. At the height of the Cold War and the civil rights struggle, Gene Roddenberry envisaged a future where all of humanity; regardless of race, nationality, gender and sexuality worked together as equals. If that was too subtle for the audience a half-human alien was included as part of the crew too.

A lot is often said of the technology that has been inspired by Star Trek, but I think it’s also worth highlighting the future vision of humanity in Roddenberry’s show too. After all, it’s no coincidence that Star Trek is the first show ever to show an interracial kiss on television.
