Meta-morphoses and fiction update
Here’s the first part of our first fiction. I originally wanted to send a longer selection, but I decided that a short sample would be better for a first impression. It will give you a feel for the style of the frame story, which is also an independent narrative. The supernatural horror elements are not present in this sample, but you’ll have a good idea of what sort of real world pains will be explored. Luckily, this first story is a lengthy one, so I’ll have more to release for some time. That said, There is the potential to hit a road bump in the long term. Some writing submission opportunities opened up, and I did not have any unrelated short fiction on hand, so I repurposed shorter stories that are part of this project. will retain rights to still use them eventually, but it may take multiple months to get either a rejection or acceptance, and—if they are accepted—the publishers have the rights to the initial release, which would further push back when I can re-incorporate them. This means output might have to slow down as I complete stories that were slated for more distant future release to fill the gaps, or I may wait and publish according to my original planned order. I’ll be working on material no matter what, but there could be a gap in material being sent out.
The newsletter release schedule should finally pick up in general. The non-fiction will have its own update when the next issue comes out, but I’ll say here that I hit an unfortunate amount of productivity bottlenecks at the same time. The only snag is that I have been having a spike in psychotic symptoms, and episodes can be both lengthy and impeding. I have contingency plans this time, but there might be a taper off. That said, there shouldn’t be any dry spells for as long as this one.
I am sending this update+release to newsletter readers, but I’ll also have the pdf available independently in the archive if you want to share it without all this business. As a final note: I did have a test reader make sure it’s in a readable state, but it hasn’t had a professional copy edit pass yet. There might be some errors, most likely in parts where the tense gets complicated. It’s not a rough draft, but it might be a rougher than something that’s gone through the whole publishing process.
All the best,
Clay and Cass
