It's my birthday
So here's a post of some things I've been enjoying recently
It’s my birthday, I’ve given myself a break, so here’s a post of things I’ve been enjoying recently.

Things I’ve been reading
Working at Relational Depth in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This was reccommended to me by my course tutor and I’ve really enjoyed going through it. I’ve never annotated a book as much as this and I’ll definitely be using it as a basis of some writing in the new year.
Fifth Season by N K Jemisin. It’s taken me a long time to get to this and I’m still reading it, fantasy takes a while for me to get through. The world building is lucious though and I’m looking forward to getting through more of this trilogy.
Out There Screaming by Jordan Peele. A black horror anthology edited by Jordan Peele? Say less.
Things I’ve been watching
I’ve been doing an unholy amount of cross stitch (both commissions and prepping for a maker’s market) so have been working through Shudder’s catalogue while I stitch.
Some faves:
Fresh - You can tell this was directed by a woman both from the strong female friendships/solidarity, and the way some of the scenes are shot. I’m not gonna spoil it, but it really plays with horror and modern dating, not shying away from either.
Bliss - A trip. A painter struggling with artitst block finds a solution. Things escalate from there. What’s real and what’s a hallucination?
Glorious - I love small films. Similar to Stowaway, this film has few characters in an isolated place (this time a truck stop). One of them just happens to be an eldritch demi-god. Doesn’t shy away from gore, proves you can do a whole lot with very little.
Things I’ve been listening
I’ve not listened to much new stuff recently, but here’s some things:
I did a Magnus Archives relisten and it remains a great bit of audio fiction. The move from ‘monster of the week’ to ‘wait, what? who?’ is excellent. The next installment in the universe starts next year and I can’t wait.
Eerie is an 8 episode anthology of (you guessed it) horror stories. Some really excellent pieces in this, my faves are probably Fissures, LeechDog, and The Ecology of Fear.
As you can see I’ve really gone back to my horror roots over the past few months. I’ve been really enjoying induging in these things while cross stitching, walking, or generally relaxing. Though now it gets to winter and dark nights, I do less listening to horror as I walk because, despite (or maybe because) of my love of horror, I still get jumpy in the dark 😅
What have you been enjoying recently? Have you moved into Christmas media yet?
