The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Freelancer 🏫
Jobs 👉Complexly, MIT, Jefferson Lab👈
Gigs & Internships
Complexly is looking for a script writer to join Eons and Journey through the Microcosmos. Deadline to apply is SUNDAY.
This is kind-of a weird one: Somebody with 3D modeling experience to assist North Carolina State in producing AI-based research.
If you fuxs with physics, check out this multimedia gig from Jefferson Lab.
Another weird one, but it’s so niche I know it’s somebody’s dream job: NOAA is looking for somebody to manage multimedia and web products for their “Heritage” initiative. Deadline tomorrow.
MIT is looking for a writer/multimedia-ish person to help create content around biology. This is two jobs in one, so if they offer you less than $80K and three weeks PTO they’re fucking with you.
Hu$tle Tips
Nexus Media News is accepting freelance pitches about climate change. Pitch guide here.
Did you know that Science will help fund investigative science stories?
My audio people! Solutions Journalism Network and Public News Service are accepting applications for a climate fellow. (I put this in Hu$tle bc the stipend sounds small, and the workload seems light.) Remote!

Are you more of a “fix it in post” person? StudioBinder’s explanation on the exposure triangle that’s helped me enormously in my production quality. A light meter app also helps.
I shared this on the Binders of Science Writers Facebook group, but if you hate your phone recording app, I highly recommend paying for one of these doo-hickeys, which plug into a voice recorder, and then simply toss that .mp3 file into Otter.ai. This is how I did all my interviews for my thesis, most of which were more than 45-minutes long, and it was so much simpler than the app I was using before.
What Got Me Through Last Week
I DM a Dungeons & Dragons campaign online through Roll20 with my friends, and honestly, just the space to hang out and laugh these days is so precious to me. The weekend before last they freed a horny (ha) unicorn from his curse after setting the enemy NPC’s home ablaze.
Here’s my favorite feel-good DnD group to listen to while I draw or build out this newsletter.
