All Quiet on the Job-hunt Front 🌹

Jobs 👉 JPL, PBS, High Country News 👈

Gigs and Internships

JPL is hiring for a video producer.

George Mason University is looking for a science content producer.

High Country News is hiring for their winter editorial interns.

The SoCal PBS team is looking for an environmental producer.

Hu$tle Tips

Apparently there is a master list of EU and UK opportunities? Very interesting to those with a visa.

Adventure Uncovered is soliciting pitches for their winter edition: The theme is “Darkness”.

Not strictly a science mag, but I feel like this call for pitches from GUMBO mag could easily fall into some environmental/agricultural sustainability pitches.

Attend the Science Journalism Forum, potentially for free!

A NASA contractor is looking for a part-time Earth Science writer. Dang! Looks sweet! Remote!

💰 Business of Freelancing Edition

SEJ has a really great starter-PDF for helpful orgs.

Freelancing with Tim had an issue on how to correctly find work via social media.

If you are freelancing full-time, remember next week to pay your estimated taxes for the last quarter.

Don’t know what estimated taxes are? Remember that, as a contractor or freelancer, your employer isn’t taking taxes out of your pay and you are liable for a 15% self-employment tax. Here is a helpful article about your tax responsibilities.

Also, get that Roth-IRA filled out! Social Security isn’t going to be a thing when we retire! Roth-IRAs contributions can also be tax-deductible.

What Got Me Through Last Week

A few weeks ago I finally bought my real big-gamer-girl rig and I’ve been playing a lot of Elden Ring. My boyfriend (who has never played a FromSoft game before this one) doesn’t believe me when I say this is way easier than Bloodborne.
