Hello and happy Pride from SLIM!
What better time to announce our plan for Intersex Awareness Day?
To celebrate 30 years of intersex resistance to medical domination (Octobers 1996-2026), we want to give you something.
Hermaphrodites Fight!: An Intersex Resistance Timeline
Delivered as a free, public, digital museum hosted by SLIM, Hermaphrodites Fight! chronicles how intersex people in the United States began challenging the state-supported “medical best practice” of infant genitoplasty, tracking the fight through new writing, gathering community-sourced images and videos, and conducting at least 20 oral interviews with artists, scholars, and agitators of all ages, offering continuity to a population separated by shame and geographic distribution.

We at SLIM have worked on making things better for intersex communities for a combined 25+ years. As a researcher and a web developer, we think that a digital place offers a lot of things we need:
Continuity for young people to see themselves in this fight
Rooting in a heritage that belongs to all of us
Resistance to fascism’s erasure of queer Internet records
Space, asserting intersex people as part of public history
Depth of study to observe successes, setbacks, and patterns, especially in 2026 as “sex” becomes even more fraught
We’re excited about this initiative! The website was partially built this spring, so we’re off to a good start.
To launch this fall, we need your help.
🌟 KICK IN HERE! 🌟SLIM has two months to raise the money needed to keep our doors open through 2026 and deliver this fall. We’re committed to making that happen. Will you build with us?

Anyone contributing $20+ will receive their very own (digital) brick. Preservation is a group project. We hope that the timeline’s wall of support, made of engraved brick messages, will be a fun way for people to leave their mark.

If you’re an organization, university, or group that is interested in sponsoring this project, please hit us up by replying to this email! We’d love to discuss ways we could work with you to bring this to life, including speaking engagements or content partnerships.
