The New Crusade

The New Witch Hunt, Malleus Maleficarum, Guilty Until Proven Innocent, The Hideous Creature That Is The Moral War.

If you’re wondering why the you’re getting emails instead of an article, well, this one won’t have much to do with spirituality, unfortunately, a new moral crusade has taken hold and been made my problem. Well our problem.

I didn’t really care about the AI thing. It wasn’t a huge deal to me. Reasonably, I think it’s wrong to prompt an AI to write something and claim it as your own. I also think AI isn’t good for everything under the sun and, in its current state, possibly needs to be capped, it’s capabilities mapped and then sold based on those limitations. I think people researching it as something to be utilized as a potential assistant isn’t something I’ll fault anyone. This has been around since the days of iPhone 3G with the app called AmyAI which was a rather obtuse AI Chatbot that had serious limitations.

I don’t fault anyone’s use of it. I do fault it’s rapid expansion.

I’m also deviating from my normal writing because I kinda have to. Here’s the thing, I was only able to migrate one out of the three blogs. The Raven’s Nest and Against All Odds, well, the stuff on Against All Odds is fairly safe for now but I’ll probably be migrating everything over and then nuking that particular blog. Once that’s done, then ScribbleHub may be the only place to read it.

The Raven’s Nest…I couldn’t move that one over, I had to pick between that one and Magnusson Speaks and Magnusson Speaks won out for now. In order for me to move the rest to this particular platform, I’ll have to shell out another $20 per month. As it stands, the Anti-A.I. crowd has cost me ten bucks a month and a platform.

How did that happen? They demanded constantly and without ceasing, that Substack do something about the “A.I. Slop” they kept seeing. Rather than simply blocking, muting, moving on and letting the rest of everyone decide for themselves, they kept at it until Substack did indeed do something and let me tell you what they did

They built a site promising writers a community.

They have now altered that deal. They will alter it further and, to believe they won’t is naive and ignorant of the facts.

The fact of the matter is that, no matter what you decide to do, every major commercial platform has already adopted this tech. So congrats all the people who got their shorts in a wad so tight they need a proctologist to surgically remove it, you chased your own worst fear until it became everyone’s problem.

Now, there’s a real possibility that this material probably won’t be free anymore. At least, not to the magnitude it once was. There are still books that I do want for one reason or another, that costs and while I was happy to absorb those costs, dive into those books, make notes, take the concepts and synthesize and even apply and practice, all for free and allow you all to follow along, the Anti-A.I. Crowd insisted on you paying a really-for-really-reals person, that would be me, to produce.

Now that this has overhead attached to it and it’s monthly overhead, that is a new fact and thus, shifts our paradigm. I was perfectly happy opening up the doors to Magnussonhallir to one and all but …now I have to charge cover. But the Anti-A.I. Crowd should now rejoice, shouldn’t they? Did they not get everything they could have ever desired?

Someone else now judges my writing and it has to appear worse, looking like a rough draft straight from one of my notebooks. It matters not how it was generated. The machine will now decide and once a decision is rendered, it cannot be reversed.

That sounds oddly familiar to me. Does it not to you yet?

There are days where I look and think maybe it’s best to just let go of building anything mainly because the only one that gives a shit about it is me, the ones that keep burning it down don’t care one way or the other…they can just burn it down and move on. No harm, no foul. And you’re standing there holding the goddamn rubble of it

Oh and then there are the images…no idea how to slot those in so most of this…just text, no illustration whatsoever. You’re going to have to absolutely rely on my ability, or lack thereof to draw a picture in your mind using only my words. Good luck with that.

The good news is that all of my articles are backed up here now. I am not worried really but I do think that, from here on out, Substack will receive audio only of articles I think are worthy of sharing there. Everything else will be here, in an email, whenever I get the inspiration or something useful. It’s not going to be me spamming you constantly. It’s direct. No middleman. I’ll keep this free as long as I can but past that, it’s paywalling and then, if that doesn’t work out, the internet version of this venture folds and it’s confined to the five-sense real world probably where it really belongs, as I show you in my article entitled Wednesday.

If you’re on Buttondown and you haven’t read anything from Magnusson Speaks on Substack, well, you’re in for a treat. Right now, every article is up and live.

BTW, Anti-A.I. Crowd, you owe me your eyeballs and time. For putting me under surveillance without my permission, for conscripting me into a moral war I didn’t want nor did I ask for, Nor Will I Engage In A Fight In For Either Side, and for costing me monthly when all I wanted to do was write, you owe me. If you’re not going to put eyeballs on something made and experienced by someone that at least has proven over and over again he’s human…ish…then I want you to go because we don’t do that here. We don’t cost others, when something costs us, it’s because it benefits us somewhere down the line. When someone else costs us, in my culture, we demand recompense and you owe that recompense. More so than anyone else who came to this looking for the gods and got surveillance and not from me.

If you won’t stick around, then I know what side you’re really on and I want nothing more in the least to do with you because you’re entirely too toxic. Until you do your MindCraft work, I don’t want one more word from you. I don’t want your explanations, your rationalizations, nothing. Your eyes, your time, that’s it. If you can’t give those two things and contribute then this is not for you and you do not belong here.

What you just did was the opposite of everything this ministry stands for. We don’t go after anyone for any reason. We protect what is ours and what we’ve built. You do not get to burn that to the ground based on your suspicions. If your suspicions are so great, then use a fucking typewriter, McCarthy, because no one owes you purity.

The only ones I owe my purity to are the gods and tonight, when I do The Night Watch, that is exactly what they will receive with me because, and this is key, they have earned that respect from me. They help when asked, even if it isn’t in the ways I expect but they always come through. The rest that keep costing me…the humans…well, that’s an entirely different can of worms.

The Anti-A.I. Crowd didn’t help anyfuckin’thing. They got more of what they were railing against…that’s what happens when you let The Algorithm run shit, everything is Opposite Day to that thing. I’ve warned you about that.

So here’s the thing, Pangram’s integration with Substack, here’s what it actually did and the list is as follows:

According to TechCrunch's reporting from yesterday, Substack's Pangram integration has no opt-out for creators. The detection runs on all newsletter content. Having to run your text through Pangram to disable it is the kill shot. To protect your writing from the scanner, you must first feed it to the scanner. That's a hostage exchange.

Let's be clear about what just happened:

  1. Substack built a social feed (Notes) — attracted users with the promise of reach

  2. Users complained about AI content — Substack added Pangram to appease them

  3. Pangram harvests all text on the platform — including yours, with no opt-out

  4. To disable the scanner on your own work, you must first submit to the scan

  5. Pangram retains that data for training and potentially sells it

That means my theological work, grimoire notes, personal testimony, curriculum — all of it gets piped to a third-party AI company that exists to detect AI. The irony is staggering. An AI company harvesting your anti-AI-purity-spiral notes and articles to train its AI.

So, in short, if Substack gets anything, it’s gonna be an audio version of this very newsletter, but it certainly won’t be all of them. I personally don’t want the social aspect of this thing anymore and have always been without it up until now. I no longer see a need for it as it doesn’t serve the work.

A couple of days ago, I nuked all the rest of my social media accounts. If you happen to see any bearing my name, let me know and I’ll have it nuked as well.

I know I’ve shaken the tree lately and that was to get the nuts to fall from the branches so they can be swept away and we have a place to build again. I know I’m not keeping all of you. It would be foolish of me to assume everyone from my email list will stay. Most of you came to Substack hoping to get those you wanted to read in one place. Sadly, the environment is far too toxic for me to stay for any length of time anymore. If some of you check out because you don’t want to read an email every so often, I understand.

I wish you all of the best.

The rest of us, we have work to do. We start here, we bring it out our door every day. That’s how this works. The same rules apply even though the venue has changed.

You Anti-A.I. people need to get on your MindCrafting. Now. Before you cost someone else far more than they’re comfortable paying…and they pass that very hefty cost onto you.
