✨ SOS - Shiny Object Syndrome

should you chase the new idea?

Hi writer,

I’ve been infected.

I have Shiny Object Syndrome, and I’m OBSESSED with this new idea of mine. It is, I know, the single best idea I’ve ever had. It’s so sparkly! So pretty! So perfect! (I know this will pass. It always does. But I’m enjoying the hell out of it while it’s here.)

So, yep. I’m going to start writing it this weekend.

What’s this weekend?

Oh, only the BEST way to connect with your writing, whether you’ve been working regularly or not.

WRITING IN THE JUNKYARD Online Retreat

(And this is your last chance to grab the early-bird pricing!)

Is it okay to chase shiny new objects?

Lots of Serious Writers say “No, madam, it is not okay. You must finish your book at all costs! (This kind of rhymes with “what will the neighbors think” and “well, actually.”)

But sometimes, if you’ve been hit in the feels by a Shiny New Object, chasing that sparkly rainbow with your grabby little fingers outspread is exactly the right thing to do. Sometimes you have to light those fireworks inside your chest (in the good way, not the go-to-the-ER way).

Sometimes we have to WRITE WHAT LIGHTS US UP.

Want to join me this weekend? And a bunch of other serious, sweet, eager, shy, excited writers?

Two days! Twelve full hours. (Or whatever time you can come for.)

Just you and your words, sprawling joyfully. Together with others who are doing the same thing.

Right in the middle of your real life.

Onward!

PS - Okay, some of those Serious Writers might have a point. (Sometimes.) If you want to be an author, you’ll eventually have to finish your book (or books, since few writers can stop at one). And if you’ve never finished a book even though you’ve tried, then yes, finishing is important and might need to be your priority for a while. You’ve gotta do it, and then you’ll have to revise (the best part). Then, once you’ve become a completer-of-books, Shiny New Objects will fly at you even faster, since they know you’ll catch them and make them come true! ✨

100% human-written - please forgive the inevitable typos! ❤️
