[Extra] The Future of The Pixel Prophet
The Pixel Prophet moves to Buttondown due to Substack's stance on Nazis, subscribers don't need to take action.

Hello, dearest readers of The Pixel Prophet!
I recently was made aware that Substack, the platform that hosts and distributes The Pixel Prophet, finally published a statement on accusations that they don’t do enough against Nazis on their platform. Instead of a bold stand against them, Hamish McKenzie issued a statement that essentially boils down to “We don’t like them either, but they generate profit, so ¯\(ツ)/¯”.
Thus I decided to move the Pixel Prophet and its archive to a different service, Buttondown. Thank you for the recommendation, Rainer Sigl.
🏡 The new home of The Pixel Prophet is https://buttondown.email/PixelProphecy.*
The good thing is, I have all subscribers’ email addresses in case I needed to pack and move elsewhere—the main reason I went with Substack in the first place. I just didn’t think I’d have to make use of that so soon.
What this means for you
If you are a subscriber, you don’t have to do anything.
New issues will arrive in your inbox when they are released, as usual. (If you are worried about your privacy, here’s Buttondown’s privacy policy, they are fully GDPR compliant.)
If you receive the Pixel Prophet
via email, nothing should change apart from the newsletter’s visual appearance and the sender address.
via the RSS feed, please update your reader to fetch the new issues from here: https://buttondown.email/PixelProphecy/rss
in the Substack app, new issues won’t show up there and I might even delete the archive, depending on how bad things go with Substack. Please consider subscribing via email or the RSS feed instead.
not yet, then please subscribe at the bottom of the landing page of the Prophet’s new home at Buttondown because new Substack subscribers won’t automatically transfer over.
Going forward
I am still planning to have the issue 08 out by January 1st 2024 but depending on how smooth or bumpy the transition goes, it might be delayed a little. I want to manually move all previous issues over and make sure that all images and such survive the move.
About the inevitable change in design and appearance, there is nothing I can do (yet) because custom CSS formatting is not included in Buttondown’s free plan. Since I am not making any money off the Prophet, I will hold off on that as long as I can (i.e. until the Prophet surpasses 100 subscribers).
If you want to support me and the Prophet, you can tip me at Ko-Fi or via a one-time PayPal donation, or check out my Patreon.
In any case, I thank you for your interest and time and hope you’ll continue to enjoy and recommend the Prophet. For the indies!
