Peacocks in India are not zoo animals. They're everywhere — perched on compound walls, strutting across temple courtyards, screaming from rooftops at 5 AM. They're the national bird, and they behave like they know it. This one had claimed an old iron railing outside a crumbling haveli and was watching the street below with an expression that can only be described as regal disapproval.
What struck me was the contrast — the iridescent blue-green of the neck feathers against the flaking plaster behind. The bird didn't flinch when I raised the camera. It turned slightly, giving me its better angle. I'm not joking. Peacocks are the most photogenic creatures alive, and they are entirely aware of it.
