Community Wildlife Features Consultation

Do you live in Ceredigion and have an interest in supporting nature where you live?

We are exploring opportunities to install a range of wildlife features across Ceredigion — and we want to hear from you.

WEST WALES WILD WATCH - May

Free wildlife recording sessions with West Wales Biodiversity Information Centre. A great way to discover the local wildlife. 10am- 1pm.

Nature Events

Head to Fantasy Farm for some crafts with Peggy on Monday 4th May at 12noon.
Activity/Craft of the day to be announced

Seashore Safari

Explore the rockpools searching for crabs, fish, anemones, marine snails and more in New Quay on Friday 9th May 1.30-3pm.

Ceredigion Butterflies in 2025

Paul Taylor (Ceredigion County Butterfly Recorder) will guide you through the highs and lows of butterfly life in the county last year. Preceded by a brief Annual General Meeting. C22 Hugh Owen Building, Aberystwyth University. Monday 11th May 7pm.

Dyfi Biosphere Event

There will be an event to discuss tree and woodland activities across the Dyfi Biosphere on Monday 11 May at the Centre for Alternative Technology. Details are here. We hope to see you there.

Trwco – Small World Theatre

Artists, leaders, environmental thinkers, policy makers and more, coming together to explore bold ideas at the intersection of creativity, science and climate action. Friday 15th May 10am-4pm = £25+

Songs of Our Islands

Join New Quay Community Choir, Cor Cei on Saturday 16th of May 7pm at Llanina for an evening of music. Entry is by donation and all proceeds will go to supporting Marine Conservation work at Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre.

Nature Workshops

Saturday 16th May at Llanfihangel-Rhos-y-corn Church Hall. See attached.

  • Hedgrerows – Identification, planting and benefits to wildlife 11am-1pm.

  • Basic Remedies using locally found herbs 2-4pm.

Pollinator Festival

On Sunday 17th May 10am-4pm Cletwr we will be holding a Pollinator Festival featuring activities for all the family to raise awareness of the plight of pollinating insects and how we can help them.

Naturewise Celebration

A show case of achievements by Naturewise, Cardigan on Tuesday 19th May 1.30-3.30pm. See attached.

Breakfast with a Bottlenose

Look out for Bottlenose Dolphins, Harbour Porpoise, Atlantic Grey Seals and seabirds from New Quay harbour wall on Saturday 23rd May 9.30-11am = £2.88.

Green Thumb Horticulture Day

Spend a day immersed in the beauty of nature at our Green Thumb Horticulture Day on Saturday 30th May at The Flower Meadow, Penrhiwpal.

Sea Science Lab - Dolphin Diet Detectives

Learn about prey species, the digestion process and carry out a range of interactive experiments and a dolphin watch in New Quay. Wednesday 27th May. 10-11am = £5.04.

Cardigan Bay Wildlife Explorer Trips

Join experienced researchers from the Wildlife Trust of South & West Wales’ Cardigan Bay Marine Wildlife Centre on an all-day marine megafauna survey in Cardigan Bay. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.  £90.10+

FARMING

Nature-friendly Farming Stories

An evening of nature-friendly farmers sharing their stories of producing food and flowers in ways that help the planet. Wednesday 20th May 6.30-7.45pm.

Single Application Form is now open where you can confirm you are entering the scheme and applying for the payment. 

NATIONAL HEDGEROW WEEK

Monday 4th – Sunday 10th May.

National Hedgerow Week Resources

Free, downloadable resources to help you create eye-catching displays that will entertain and educate children and families.

The Craft of Hedgelaying

Take a deep dive into the world of hedgelaying, with particular attention to its diverse regional styles. Tuesday 5th May 1-2pm.

The Importance of Hedgerows

Learn about hedgerows: their importance, the species that need them, and how you can implement them in your private green space (small and large). Tuesday 5th May 6-7pm = £3.50.

The Mighty Hawthorn

An introduction to an ongoing hawthorn research project seeking to better understand the resilience of - and threats to - this iconic hedgerow species. Thursday 7th May 1-2pm.

Hedgerow in the Sky

Take a peek behind the scenes of the Chelsea Flower Show 2026 with Buzz Club.

FUNDING

Grants for Good

Funding for small and growing local charities, voluntary groups or social enterprises that are making a big impact on communities, people or the environment.

Green Man Trust

Community Fund that aims to support activities that address an area of social need, encourage inclusiveness and help our communities to become more resilient.

Esmee Fairbairn Foundation

Fund for organisations that will make the greatest long-term impact and change systems for the future.

Major Gifts Fundraiser

The Wildlife Trusts. Closing date: Sunday 10th May.

Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme

A grant funding programme to help communities living within five miles of certain waste transfer stations or landfill sites take action for their local environment. Closing date: Friday 5th June.

COURSES

Short Courses at CAT

Day and short courses from The Centre for Alternative Technology covering a range of sustainability issues.

Becoming a Conservation Leader

This course is designed for young people who want to turn their commitment to protecting our planet into meaningful action = £200+ (help available to avoid an affordability barrier).

Field Studies Council Courses - May

  • Discovering Trees – From **Wednesday 6th = £20.

  • Identifying Wildflower Families From **Wednesday 13th = £30.

  • Field Identification of Bumblebees **Monday 18th = £40.

CONSULTATIONS

Flooding Consultation

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) has launched a consultation on a plan to reduce the risk of tidal flooding for 90 homes and buildings in Cardigan. The consultation end: Monday 18 May.
Public drop-in session to give the local community an opportunity to view the draft plans, speak with the project team on Wednesday 13th May. 1 – 7Pm. Tower Room, Cardigan Castle.

RAY Ceredigion Public Consultation

RAY Ceredigion is asking you for your ideas on what they can do at their premises in Aberaeron and for your ideas on activities, events, courses, etc?
