A publication and a podcast

Like most folks in academia, I have a big backlog of drafts and articles in review. So it’s always a good week when drafts and work-in-progress pieces become sharable.

Publication: The first article from the Swedish/Australian collaborative project I’ve been working on with with Jenny Sundén & Dr Zahra Stardust (looking at LGBTQ+ people’s experiences of sextech use) is out this week.

We outline a queer politics of pleasure through reflections on LGBTQ+ people’s uses and experiences of sextech in Australia and Sweden. We focus on the tension between understandings of pleasure as a commodity in sexual capitalism; and pleasure as something more improvisational and unpredictable - a concept which is afforded limited space in mainstream sextech data economies. Podcast: The Caddyshack Project is funded by NSW Health through their HIV and Related Diseases program - I really rate them highly. They have one of the best ‘youth-focused’ online presences in Australian sexual and reproductive health, across a range of platforms - including book reviews on Goodreads.

I recorded a great conversation with health promotion team-member Maddy Stratten, as part of Caddyhack’s ‘On The Couch’ podcast series. It was a good, wide-ranging chat, including a discussion of the implications of AI for sexual health, and a bit of a pitch (on my part) for more resourcing for the digital health promotion workforce. We also talked about research, porn and a range of other topics! You can listen, watch the video (yikes) or read a transcript here.
