Dark Reckonings

A low limestone cliff with trees at the top and grass at the bottom.

Daredevil 1.6 "Condemned"

Things have gotten really dark. A substantial amount of the NYPD is corrupt, Fisk seems to have bought himself a few cops.

He's framing Daredevil for the explosions quite expertly. Never underestimate Wilson Fisk.

I was amused by "It isn't like the movies" followed by a ton of things that any first responder will tell you only happen in the movies. Including CPR that would have broken the guy's entire rib cage and probably killed him instead of saving him. Ahem.

But it's a comic book show, so I'll let them have it along with, you know, human echolocation. (Btw, some blind people CAN do it to a much more limited degree. We're not really built for it, but you can train yourself to do it. Just not like that).

Daredevil has always had the disability as superpower problem, tbh.

Andor 1.3 "Reckoning"

I have to wonder how many of the younger viewers recognized the livery on the flying buses on Ferrix. They are, of course, old school British Pullman cars!

Cassian is recruited into the Rebel Alliance by an older guy with a sword. The imagery, of course, echoes Jedi imagery, but it's not a lightsaber and he's clearly not a Jedi.

Time to leave Ferrix behind (and the hot chick, of course, but we may well see her again.

I think he left the droid too, which surprised me, the cute droid is supposed to go along! (Or I'm wrong).

But we seem to be out of Origin Story at this point. Oh wait, we haven't had the Training Montage yet.

Wizards of Waverly Place 2.22 "My Tutor, Tutor"

Max is not doing well in wizard school, so Jerry hires him a tutor. Named Tutor. Both Justin and Alex fall for her in their own ways...Justin wants to date her but Alex clearly isn't attracted to girls, so she just wants to be best friends (Harper is jealous).

This leads to them sabotaging poor Max so he fails the wand quiz again and shenanigans involving an angry leprechaun.

Then Tutor admits to being part elf...and apparently she can't turn off her glamor. So...yeah. She may not have intended to manipulate them, but they did.

Somebody should warn people about that!

Daredevil 1.7 "Stick"

Stick is Daredevil's mentor. And an assassin. Who tried to turn Matt into one, but Matt's too decent a guy.

That's the summary, but the dynamic between the two is actually quite fascinating. Scott Glenn, a veteran actor, portrays the character wonderfully. "I needed a soldier. You were looking for a father."

(Dude, the kid was like ten, what did you expect).

He asks Matt to help him stop a weapon...that turns out to be a metahuman child, abilities unknown.

Matt is not down for killing children.

But Stick has an agenda (and also he only says he killed the kid, possibly to get a rise out of Matt).

And then there's Kingpin...what's he up to?

Andor 1.4 "Aldhani"

Turns out sword guy wants Cassian for a heist. A big heist. And is foisting him off on a group that knows they need another pilot, but do they want one? Of course not. Cassian is, of course, the Competent Man, the typical SF protagonist who can do almost everything reasonably well.

Ergo, no training montage. Just a trip to a thinly-veiled Scottish Highlands after the Clearances (or possibly some other colonial reference that might be more familiar to you).

Most of the episode is taken up with planning and vistas of the planet, but we do start to get the impression Cassian is somebody special.

Because of course he is. (And one of the people on the team appears to be slightly Force sensitive).
