Weekend classes for all ages and a new Saturday course for kids

Hi everyone,

First, thank you! It was so gratifying to see so many registrations come in on Friday and through the weekend.

This winter marks year three of Hot Pizza, and I got surprisingly emotional seeing all the emails. Some of our longtime HP kids with notes from parents that say, “They can walk home by themselves now.” Familiar last names with new first names and a 2020 or 2021 birthdate—little siblings! A slew of first-timers with notes like, “My kid loves sewing and is so excited!” Adults who wrote, “I’ve been looking for this kind of course!”

It’s heart-filling to watch our little community grow and everyone flourish. And it’s humbling to be a conduit for all this creative energy. We’re excited to get started in a few weeks—we’re gonna make a lot of art this fall! Registration for kids’ and adult September–October courses continues.

Second, below you’ll find info on a few upcoming one-offs and our new Saturday-morning kids’ course!

Didn’t expect to write this intro, but going with it,
Brian

Deep Dish on Saturday mornings!

Deep Dish is always the first after-school course to sell out. Kids love that it’s a kind of “sampler” of what Hot Pizza offers. The course has it all: designing, constructing, painting, sewing, pasteling, trying, failing, building, building, destroying, and building some more.

And now we’re offering it on a weekend for the first time. Beginning September 19, drop your kid off at Hot Pizza on College Street at 9:30, head out for coffee or brunch nearby, and return at 11 to see what unique thing they imagined into being!

The start of a new season means the resumption of our one-off weekend classes. Learn some creative skills, have a lot of fun doing it, and make something you didn’t know you had in you!

For adults:

  • Speed Portraiture (Sat., 9/12, 7:30 p.m. at 1152 College Street). Practice your drawing skills while meeting cool people and amassing a unique collection of portraits of you! Speed and fun are key. We practice drawing each other, together, and while doing so have great conversations. Register →

  • Block Printing (Sat., 9/26, 7:30 p.m. at 134 Osler Street). Come play with pattern, colour, and cloth in this fun, hands-on block printing workshop for adults by the amazing Sarah Aranha. You’ll learn how to design a simple image, carve your own printing block, ink it up, and print repeat patterns onto fabric. No experience needed—bring something to print on and leave with something joyful. Register →

For kids:

  • Little Studio (Sat., 9/19, 9:30 a.m. at 134 Osler St.). A playful morning for Hot Pizza’s youngest artists (ages 3–6) to explore, experiment, and begin finding their own creative voices. Using multiple media, kids will make imaginative projects that feel magical and gently build real art skills along the way. Register →
