Author Martin Dobrow presenting his upcoming book at the Fifth Maine

We had an incredible turn out for our Book Talk event with author Martin Dobrow at the Fifth Maine Museum last Saturday evening. Thank you to everyone who attended! Here are some words of praise from one attendee of the Book Talk, Fifth Maine member Geoff Phillips McEnany:

Congratulations to Professor Marty Dobrow for his excellent and compelling presentation at the 5th Maine Museum [on Saturday] evening. For the last 20 years, Marty has dedicated himself to writing about the (mainly untold) story of the critical role that St. Augustine, Florida played in the civil rights movement. In our country's oldest city, history was forged there by Martin Luther King, aided by select people in that city, with countered attempts to foil the growth of civil rights by powerful political and social factors. Marty's efforts to document the details of this story culminated in the publication of his book... His presentation shared spellbinding vignettes from his book (which was written in part on Peaks Island), coupled with an engaging discussion of his process while engaged in the writing. It was an exceptional presentation. We anxiously await the publication of the book next month.

Martin Dobrow’s book, Original City, Original Sin, can be pre-ordered on the Cambridge University Press website and the publisher is offering 20% off with the code CITY20
