SAMPLE LETTER

Subject: Support for Ending County Facilities Use by ICE and CBP for Firearms Training

Dear Chair Lawson-Remer and Members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors:

I am writing in strong support of the Board action to end the use of County-owned and County-leased facilities by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for firearms training.

This issue directly impacts me and my community. [OPTIONAL: Describe your local experience, or concerns]. I believe believe that County resources should be used to strengthen our communities and build trust, not contribute to fear or undermine residents' confidence in local government.

Allowing ICE and CBP to use County facilities for firearms training undermines that work and sends the wrong message to families who are already fearful.

Just like happened here in Escondido, the agreements at issue allow ICE to train here were executed administratively without consideration or public deliberation by the Board of Supervisors.

County resources should reflect County values. The Board has adopted policies intended to ensure residents can access local government, report crimes, seek medical care, and send their children to school without fear that doing so could expose themselves or their loved ones to immigration enforcement.

Terminating these agreements does not prevent the federal government from carrying out its responsibilities. It simply establishes that San Diego County facilities and resources should not be used to support federal immigration enforcement agencies in a manner that conflicts with the County's commitment to the communities it serves.

I respectfully urge the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to support this action and terminate the County's firearms training facility agreements with ICE and CBP.

Thank you for your leadership and your continued commitment to ensuring that every San Diego County resident can engage with their local government without fear.
