Jan. 17 National Day of Action to honor Dr. King
As we come to the MLK Holiday, let’s remember his words that ring as true now as they ever have Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve
Please find below a message from one of our allies- North San Diego County NAACP.
Dear Community Members, Faith Leaders, Educators, and Partners,
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. emphasized that life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” On Saturday, January 17, 2026, we invite our community to respond to that question through meaningful action rather than words.
The MLK Day of Service is not a holiday from responsibility. It is a call to roll up our sleeves, stand shoulder to shoulder, and carry forward Dr. King’s unfinished work through service rooted in love, justice, and unity. This year, during the annual MLK Day of Service in North San Diego County, we are seeking 250 or more volunteers across San Diego County to join us in this work.
We call upon members, churches, schools, families, and students to unite in service. We encourage participation from youth groups, classrooms, and congregations. This occasion offers an opportunity to lead by example and show young people how compassion becomes commitment. These initiatives represent acts of hope and serve as reminders to our neighbors, children, and ourselves that our community remains committed to essential work.
Dr. King asserted that “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” Service honors his legacy, particularly on this day. By serving together, we affirm that our community values unity over division, action over silence, and compassion over indifference. Your participation is essential. The presence and commitment of each individual are vital to the success of this initiative.
Volunteer registration is now open.

We encourage you to share this opportunity widely, organize volunteer teams, and come ready to serve. All ages and abilities are welcome; there are meaningful roles for individuals with limited mobility and varying physical abilities. Every contribution matters, and every act of service counts.
Let us ensure that January 17, 2026, is a day whose impact endures, a day when North San Diego County rose together, demonstrating purposeful service, collective action, and an unwavering commitment to Dr. King’s legacy.
In service, solidarity, and hope,
